Chris was kind enough to answer a few questions
on the next game that Introversion Software are working on. It will give you an
idea of how they are going about it more than it will the game itself, but its
a very interesting read. And so, without further ado, here they are!
>
Does it have a name yet?
It does, although clearly we aren't going to tell you what it is.
> What Genre is it? Or are you going to try and create a new one again?
We're certainly going to try. If we can create that feeling of Hey i've never seen anything like this before then i'll be
happy. It's very hard to achieve though. Fingers crossed. > Will
we see anything this year (beta's, demo's?) or will it be into 2004 before
any of that? Obviously we're hoping for a release this year (_late_ this
year) but we can't be sure. One thing the last year has taught us is that
it takes us a long time to do things. > Will it stick to a simple
graphical style or are you making this one 3d? We are aiming for more flash
than Uplink, but it would be foolish of us to try and compete on a level playing
field with the big name 3d game developers. We've already seen with Uplink
that people are quite content with the less-than-impressive graphics, so long
as the game is something special. The minimalist graphical style of Uplink
worked as an advantage - it added to the atmosphere far more than any 3d polygons
would have - you just have to be creative in the use of presentation. >
Now that Uplink is ported to Linux, and Mac and Pocket PC versions are on the
way, will your new game be availible on these from release? Hopefully.
We certainly have strong ties into the Linux world, so that version will most
likely roll out with the game itself just like with Uplink. We haven't really
thought that far ahead. > Is it still just you working on the game itself?
Or are you getting help with this one? We've got help this time around
- although still nothing as formal as staff members or anything. And don't
forget that i'm working full time on this stuff now - it's not just an evening
job anymore. > Is this a new idea? Or one you have had for a while?
The idea for this game started forming around the time Uplink was being
finished. It's been in gestation for ages, and the various members of the
Introversion team have talked about it over a beer or pizza on various occasions.
Until recently I haven't had the courage to get started on it.
So there
you have it. I dont think there will be any more information than that around
for quite some time, Introversion are keeping very quiet about this game, as they
want it to be a surprise for people. But still, after reading this, even though
little was actually revealed, I can't help but feel a slight twinge of anticipation. Thanks
to Chris for taking the time to answer these for me.
